The 8 Most Famous NFL Moms

Super Bowl XLI: Indianapolis Colts v Chicago Bears

The NFL Draft and Mother’s Day fall in the same week, which means there are bound to be a whole lot of proud football moms come Sunday. Even 300-pound lineman have a soft spot for their mothers, so here are some of the most recognizable mommas around the NFL.

Olivia Manning

The matriarch of the Manning family, Olivia is responsible for two of the best QBs in the NFL, Eli and Peyton. She has three Super Bowl rings from her kids and could add a few more to her jewelry box before both call it a career.

Olivia gets bonus points for the fact that she tolerated her husband Archie losing roughly 9,000 games (estimate) during his career as the QB for the New Orleans Saints. That’s patience and love.

Wilma McNabb

While her son Donovan was starring for the Philadelphia Eagles, Wilma was a TV star in her own right, appearing in a series of Campbell’s Soup commercials. The role of “Wilma McNabb” was originally played by an actress, but soon enough Donovan’s real mom was feeding him soup in a variety of wacky locales, miles away from a stove or microwave. (Real moms NEVER give you cold soup — they just figure it out.)

Similar commercials have reappeared in recent years with Giants star Victor Cruz and Packers star Clay Matthews, but actresses portray both ballers’ mothers.

The Matthews Moms

Speaking of Clay Matthews, the Packers LB comes from one of the most prodigious football families in history. His father, uncle and grandfather all played in the NFL, and he has cousins and brothers galore who’ve also hit the gridiron. The matriarchs of the family, sisters-in-law Leslie and Carrie, have raised multiple NFL players, including likely top draft pick Jake Matthews of Texas A&M.

There could be more on the way, which just goes to show that all those minivan rides to practice can eventually pay off.

Bonita Brown

Adrian Peterson is the best running back in the NFL, and he’s known for his breakaway speed. It’s pretty clear where he got it: His track star mom Bonita, who was a sprinter, long jumper and three-time state champion in Texas. Next time you cheer “AD” as he gallops up the field for another long touchdown, send your thanks to his mommy.

Leigh Anne Tuohy & Becky Vinson

Leigh Anne Tuohy is best known as the inspiration for Sandra Bullock‘s character in “The Blind Side,” and she’s the adoptive mom of Titans lineman Michael Oher. Vinson adopted a young boy who was bouncing around foster homes, and raised him as her own; he grew up to be Saints superstar Jimmy Graham.

If you cried watching Sandy B on screen, or won your fantasy football title thanks to the electric Graham, you owe those ladies a debt of gratitude. Mother’s Day is for all moms!

Lucy Molina

Victor Cruz is one of the best stories in the NFL: He was an undrafted afterthought who became a Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion for the Giants. He’s known for salsa dancing after he scores, and it’s all a way to honor his grandmother, who taught him how to dance and helped raise him along with his mother, Blanca. That’s the best grandma-inspired TD dance around — much better than knitting a sweater in the end zone.

Remember on Mother’s Day: Grandmas are moms too!
